deepblaks chief connoisseur could be considered as the third leg of this mighty tripod (with aybee and afrikan sciences). originally from san diego, where he and former crew partner ikah love held a residency for 6 consecutive years every tuesday at bar dynamite, under the famed name four corners sound system. known for his polyrhythmic, organic, and soul-filled musical releases for deepblak, sound of speed, meda fury and do over records he now presents his first full-length, which further grows his afro-inflected house vibe into spiky new directions featuring the compelling vocals of khalil anthony and some assistance from afrikan sciences.

last year s disco (a fine selection of independent disco, modern soul & boogie 1978-82) compilation from soul jazz offered undeniable proof that few diggers deserve their reputation as much as dutch discotheque scholar disco patrick. given the reception, it s no surprise to see that the london label have commissioned patrick to undertake a second assessment of the genre s lesser known gems with the focus here on the years 1976-80. the first of two double lp vinyl samplers to accompany the full cd release finds pat pulling out gems like the extremely pricey skip jackson curio micro wave boogie and t.k. disco treat cosmic funk by mad dog fire department.

full instrumentation in cayetanos studio in athens, then the band takes over and changes the sounds with the physical instruments in thessaloniki and back to athens again for the final mix. only bound friends and great professionals like them could make this sound so easy. the mix is over, here comes mastering. enrico mercaldis magic ears help the project to reach the stars for one more time. and now the magic begins.tower of power, the intro or better a summary of the album.

after an 8 month long break, sylphe is back, this time changing things for the first time with a solo ep by the b side dweller, micawber. he is delivering two solid, thumping techno cuts in the well-known mystifying sylphe mood. on the a side we have * fasma*, a rolling, melancholic techno jam. sparkling rhythms meet lamenting melodies in a 10 minute trip of bubbly sub-basslines and transcendent grooves. on the usual b side micawber is delivering yenbashu. a psyched-out trip into electronics, it moves swiftly into an experimental territory of madness, full of edgy and shuffled up beats. both cuts remain true to the sound sylphe has forged, albeit taking a sharper turn and evolving naturally. we will be pressing 599 copies.
